What I Learned
Developing Object Wars has been an instrumental part of my journey, teaching me the vast majority of what I know about game development. I started this project very early in my learning path, which quickly taught me the critical importance of rigorous scope management for future endeavors.
Through this project, I gained significant experience and skills in:
- Team Leadership & Project Management: managing a team of approximately 10 people, and overseeing the marketing and communication strategies for a project of this nature.
- Multiplayer & Network Engineering: as Object Wars is built on Godot Engine, which has limited native support for complex multiplayer systems, I architected and implemented the entire netcode and associated APIs from scratch. This gave me a deep, practical understanding of how multiplayer games work and how to build them from the ground up.
- Gameplay Programming: significantly advancing my gameplay programming skills, a crucial element for a dynamic and engaging player experience like the one Object Wars aims to deliver.
- Organizational & Production Pipelines: managing complex project organization, including development backlogs in Notion to ensure clarity and progress.
